Windows built for comfort and efficiency
Old or failing windows make a house harder to heat, noisier inside, and less pleasant to sit near. New windows are one of the more noticeable upgrades you can make, both in how a room feels and how the house looks from outside.
Blackridge Exteriors offers energy-efficient window installation and replacement that improves insulation, reduces noise, and enhances natural light while adding long-term value to your home. We install high-quality windows designed for durability, comfort, and improved energy performance.
A window only performs as well as its installation. Gaps around the frame, missing flashing, or skipped sealing can leak air and water no matter how good the glass is. That's why skilled installation matters as much as the product.
Blackridge installs ProVia Endure windows, which are vinyl framed, and we install ProVia entry doors and storm doors as well.
New windows, or just a fix?
Not every drafty window needs replacing. Worn weatherstripping, cracked caulk around the trim, or a sash that doesn't close tightly can sometimes be corrected for far less than a new window. Replacement usually makes more sense when:
- Frames are rotted, warped, or cracked
- Fog or moisture shows up between the panes of double-pane glass, which means the seal has failed
- Single-pane windows leave rooms cold all winter
- Sashes stick, won't stay open, or won't lock
- You still feel drafts after sealing and weatherstripping
- You're re-siding the house and want the windows trimmed and flashed at the same time
We had an excellent experience from start to finish. The quality of their work was outstanding, and the crew worked efficiently while still paying close attention to detail. They were always respectful of our property and did a thorough clean up after the project.
Communication was also excellent — we were kept informed about all start dates and scheduling updates, which made the entire process stress-free. The project was completed quickly and professionally, and the results were absolutely worth the money. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for exterior work done right.
How to read a window's energy label
Window energy performance is rated by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), and the label lets you compare products from different makers on equal terms. Three numbers are worth knowing:
U-factor
How much heat from inside your home can escape through the window. Lower is better, which matters a lot in a place with long heating seasons.
Solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC)
How much of the sun's heat can come in through the window. A lower number keeps rooms cooler in summer. The best value for your home can depend on which way the window faces.
Air leakage
How much outside air can get in through the window itself. Lower is better.
Windows for a Northwest Ohio climate
ENERGY STAR certifies windows based on their NFRC ratings, and its performance criteria vary by climate zone. A window certified for a warm southern climate isn't necessarily the right choice for Toledo, so check which zone a product is certified for.
Winter is where weak windows show themselves. Cold glass makes the space near a window feel chilly even with the heat turned up, and air leaking around the frame makes it worse.
Condensation is worth understanding. A little moisture on the inside of the glass on a very cold morning often points to high indoor humidity, not a bad window. Moisture trapped between the panes is different. That's a failed seal, and the window won't insulate the way it was designed to.
Summer storms test windows too, with wind-driven rain pushing at every gap between the window and the wall. If a storm damaged windows along with your siding or roof, our storm damage restoration team can inspect the whole exterior.
ProVia offers a Northern-zone ENERGY STAR option in every product line, so when you order, ask for the Northern-zone glass package. That is the one suited to Toledo winters.
